Abstract: We demonstrate that a new type of conformational defect involving gradual 360° twists of a polyethylene chain, can exist in polyethylene crystals. Such 2π-twistons can propagate smoothly like solitary waves and they may be useful for resolving twist tension in crystallization processes of polyethylene.
