ScholarBank@NUS Repository.https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/14503Remote maintenance plays an important role in the e-Manufacturing environment for high-tech industries to sharpen their competitive edge. To address such a need, a generic three-layer architecture is proposed to take advantage of the Internet to realize remote maintenance and provide technical support for manufacturing and testing equipments. A prototype system has been implemented using client/server model and distributed object technologies. This system has been applied to the on-line quality control of high precision spindle motors used in data storage industry. It provides support to link the customer, supplier and maintenance host together through the Internet. In addition, it enables the supplier service expert to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunction conveniently and securely across enterprise boundaries. By using such an Internet-based remote maintenance system, both the equipment supplier and the customer can greatly benefit from the increased equipment performance and operation reliability.ene-Manufacturing, remote maintenance & services, distributed object, three-layer architecture, testing equipment, spindle motorsDevelopment of internet-based remote maintenance and telemonitoring systemThesisNOT_IN_WOS
