ScholarBank@NUS Repository.https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/171402Sorga dan Sebayan - Traditionally sorga meant the everlasting after-world which a spirit goes to after re-living a series of after-worlds, the sebayan. However, with the encroachment of Christianity into Bidayuh societies where the traditional belief system was the sole religion, the meanings of sorga and sebayan changed accordingly, to that of the concept of Heaven and Hell respectively, insinuating good versus evil.It is my interest in this study to present the transition from the traditional religion to that of a "new" religion. And additionally, the evolution of an even newer form of the so-called "modern" religion. From a society where a singular religion dominated, societal, economic and political pressures have caused the evolution of a society to one that is divided. My intention is to further present the case of a society with various religious enclaves as a religious economy.SORGA DAN SEBAYAN : CHANGING CONCEPTS OF FAITH WITHIN THE BIDAYUH COMMUNITY, SARAWAKThesis
