ScholarBank@NUS Repository.||Abstract:||Recent progresses in the development of Metal-N-H compounds for hydrogen storage are presented. Materials under investigation include binary, ternary, and multinary nitrides, imides, and complexes. Chemical reaction between amides and hydrides leads to the formation of the new Metal-N-H compounds and substantial hydrogen desorption. Ternary imide Li2MgN2H2, e.g., can be synthesized by reacting Mg(NH2)2 with LiH. Reversible hydrogen storage over Li-Mg-N-H system can be carried out at < 180°C with > 5.5 wt % capacity. Other systems, such as Li-Al-N-H, Na-Al-N-H, Na-Mg-N-H, and Mg-Ca-N-H etc., exhibit considerable hydrogen absorption and desorption at moderate temperatures, showing a wide research scope for the further development.
