dc.description.abstractEmploying numerical calculations and our recently developed analytical approach, we calculate the lowest bandgaps in one-dimensional magnonic crystals comprising periodic arrays of submicron stripes of two alternating magnetic materials. Using suitable approximations, we simplify and recast the analytic expressions for their bandgap width and center frequency, formulated in our recent study, into a form that provides insight into the dependence of the bandgap on geometric and magnetic properties of the magnonic crystals. Calculations based on the simplified analytical formulae accord well with numerical calculations. © 2011 IEEE.
