The oscillatory behavior of the partial pair correlation functions is governed by poles of Sij(z) in the complex z plane. The hard-sphere mixture model is considered, first, for the case of equal sphere diameters where it is found that the poles and hence the partial pair correlation functions are independent of alloy composition; and second, for widely differing sphere diameters when the structure becomes dependent on alloy composition. Experimental evidence for both cases is discussed. © 1982 American Institute of Physics.
