Abstract: The growth of potassium film on MgO(100) and its effect on coadsorption of D2O have been investigated by core-level photoemission studies. XPS results indicate that K-atoms initially bind with surface oxygen of MgO(100), growing from 2D at θK < 1 ML to 3D clusters with additional K-deposition. Coadsorbed D2O reacts actively with both K-adatoms and surface Mg2+ at 295 K, forming hydroxyl groups with O 1s BE in the range 530-533 eV. © 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
