Abstract: The hydrophobic effect of C60 on the complexation between poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) was studied. It was found that the introduction of hydrophobic C60 in PEO, had a dramatic effect on the complex formation of the PEO/PMAA system. Similar to the PEO/PMAA system, there were hydrogen bonding interactions between the carboxylic acid groups of PMAA and the ether oxygens in the double end capped C60 PEO.
