Abstract: The frequency of occurrence of various spacings at which ferrite secondary sideplates form along their allotriomorphic bases, as seen on a surface of polish in a pure 0.2 pct C steel transformed at 721, 731, 741, and 752 °C, has been experimentally determined. By a statistical analysis it was possible to deduce the range and frequency distribution of the actual spacings between the sideplates. The results are consistent with the Townsend and Kirkaldy theory of sideplate spacings based on the Mullins and Sekerka interfacial stability model. © 1984 The Metallurgical Society of American Institute of Mining.
