ScholarBank@NUS Repository.||Abstract:||The model proposed recently by Tan for the prediction of the effect of dissolved solute on the vapour-liquid equilibrium of a solvent mixture has earlier been verified for various alcohol-water, organic solvent and organic acid mixtures containing different dissolved electrolytes or non-electrolytes. This study extends the verification of the model to include the ethanol-toluene-sodium acetate mixture, an alcohol-aromatic hydrocarbon-electrolyte system which has not been considered in the previous studies. The isobaric equilibrium data for the system with and without dissolved sodium acetate were determined experimentally with a Labodest still at atmospheric and subatmospheric pressures. The equilibrium data were found to be slightly affected by the system pressure and dissolved sodium acetate. The Wilson two-constant equation have a good correlation of the data for the salt-free system.
