The surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization prepared by chlorinated SiO 2 surfaces of glass and Si(100) wafer was investigated. The polymer brushes of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and (2-dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) and their block copolymers with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) had been tethered on glass slides and oxide-covered Si(100) substrates. The chemical composition of the SiO 2 was determined by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results shows the formation of the diblock copolymer brushes due to reactivation allowed by grafted P(MMA) and P(DMAEMA) chain ends on the SiO 2 surfaces.
