dc.description.abstractThis paper presents the first-order perturbation solution to the two-dimensional electrostatics problems of faceted wires on a film-substrate system under the influence of a patterned electric plate. The solutions are accurate to the first order of the characteristic slopes of the wire and the pattern; the expressions of the solutions are concise, and the solutions are valid for single and multiple wires and patterns. The perturbation solutions provide an efficient scheme for studying the effects of a patterned electric plate on the formation of wires on the film-substrate systems. © 2008 American Institute of Physics.
