Abstract: This paper discusses the implementation architecture of a knowledge-based PID controller capable of performing auto-tuning, fine-tuning, performance analysis and monitoring of processes in real-time. The main hardware and software requirements and how these requirements are realized using industry standard hardware and software environments are presented. The improvizations needed to provide non-monotonic reasoning and asynchronous information handling for a knowledge-based system operating in a real-time dynamic situation are also described.
