dc.description.abstractThe polarization of electromagnetic waves plays an important role in radar and communication systems. Phase shifters, together with a dual linear polarization antenna, are required to control the polarization. In this thesis, a two-way vector-sum full 360? phase shifter is proposed to address the requirement. The circuit consists of a Quadrature Magic-T, a power divider, two variable gain amplifiers, and two switchable broadband 90? phase shifters. These circuits were designed, implemented and tested. The measurement results have shown that the phase shifter provides a continuously tunable phase shift over 360? from 2 GHz to 6 GHz. Together with a dual-polarization antenna, the circuit will be able to achieve the standard V, H, RHCP and LHCP polarizations with full RF power. The phase shifter can also be used for beam steering phased arrays.
