Abstract: The paradigm of context aware computing has been the focus of extensive research interest over the recent years wherein the concept of ?context? is used to realize computing processes that can react and adapt to the changes in their environment. This dissertation addresses the following open problems in this area: (i) The management of context information distributed across multiple context sources using a standard technique; (ii) Processing queries over static and dynamic context data efficiently with minimal overhead caused due to data dynamicity. The main deliverables and achievements of this thesis constitute a context data management system and can be summarized as follows: (i) a range clustering technique to partition the context sources according to their data values; (ii) a mean-variance based indexing technique to manage dynamic numeric context data; and (iii) an incremental tree based index for string context attributes using radix sort and ternary search trees.
