Abstract: The miscibility behaviour of poly(1-chloroethyl methacrylate) (P1CEMA) with various polymethacrylates was examined by differential scanning calorimetry and for lower critical solution temperature (LCST) behaviour. P1CEMA is miscible with poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(ethyl methacrylate) (PEMA), poly(n-propyl methacrylate) (PnPMA), poly(isopropyl methacrylate) (PiPMA), poly(n-butyl methacrylate) (PnBMA) and poly(tetrahydrofurfuryl methacrylate), but is immiscible with poly(cyclohexyl methacrylate). Blends of P1CEMA with PEMA, PnPMA, PiPMA and PnBMA show LCST behaviour and the cloud point decreases in the order PEMA>PnPMA>PiPMA>PnBMA. P1CEMA shows a wider range of miscibility with polymethacrylates than does poly(2-chloroethyl methacrylate). © 1993.
