ScholarBank@NUS Repository.||Abstract:||This paper describes the ultimate strength analysis of an offshore tubular joint whose partial failure in Hurricane Katrina was investigated to provide an order-of-magnitude calibration for full-scale wave-in-deck loads. Methods of connection analysis included a rigid-plastic limit analysis and three levels of nonlinear finite element analysis. Progressive tearing of a minimum fillet weld at the faying surface significantly reduced the ultimate strength. A simple T×T mid-plane finite element model, with special phenomenological elements describing the weld behavior, showed a promising combination of accuracy and efficiency.||Source Title:||5th International Conference on Advances in Steel Structures, ICASS 2007||URI:||http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/74416||ISBN:||9789810593711|
