Abstract: Deployable Protective Shelter is a type of structure which not only can experience large configuration transformation but also provides protection against environmental or weaponry actions. In this paper, three types of Déployable Protective Shelters of various accommodation sizes are proposed for multi-functional applications. First, a series of design concepts are developed to meet the requirement for protection against weaponry effects. Next, origami type of deployment process is investigated and several configurations of shelters are proposed, such as container-based form, dome form, and other polyhedron forms. The proposed shelters are further developed with the protective capability by utilizing high strength armor steel plate or composite fabric. It is concluded that the proposed Déployable Protective Shelters offer multiple functional applications and they possess excellent flexibility and mobility for forming various civilian or military facilities.
