dc.description.abstractThis paper presents the approach and details of an automatic finite element (FE) mesh generation program for un-reinforced circular hollow section (CHS) T-, X- and K- joints. The mesh generation program is developed using Patran Command Language (PCL), which is tightly coupled with the pre-processor software, MSC Patran. The generated FE meshes have been verified against reference test results. Different FE aspects have been investigated to ensure a consistent mesh definition. The present mesh generation program can be readily modified for other joint types, such as reinforced joints.
