Abstract: The acoustic noise level of hard disk drive (HDD) is becoming more important for HDD in home entertainment applications. The residual vibration is a significant factor not only to the acoustic problem but also to the performance of HDD. In this work, a pseudo sinusoidal wave is used to design a smooth current profile to reduce acoustic noise. With consideration of current saturation limit and the maximum seeking velocity limit, a systematic method is proposed to design parameters such as the period of sinusoidal wave, the saturation time and the coasting time such that the residual vibrations are significantly reduced. © 2006 IEEE.
