Abstract: We report on a cost-effective photonic frequency up-conversion system using a directly modulated reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) and a delay interferometer (DI). We demonstrate that the use of a DI improves the system bandwidth by a factor of ∼3. © 2012 IEEE.
