Abstract: Experimental methods used recently by many researchers for the determination of PMSM parameters have been reviewed. Analysis and experimentations show many shortcomings and inaccuracies involved in those methods. Two novel techniques for better results through the application of linear regression and neural network are presented, and the results from these methods are also included. In addition, computational design values obtained by finite element computations are also compared to the experimental values. © 2004 The Institution of Electrical Engineers.
