Based on coordinate transformation, a novel method for exploring open cloaks is investigated. Two types of cloaks are proposed with continuous boundary and discontinuous boundary, respectively. The advantage of such cloaks is that the hidden object can be controlled to exchange information with the outer region or not. Although open cloaks do not perform as well as closed cloaks, they still can minimize the scattering significantly. Simulation results validate the method. © 2010 IEEE.
