Abstract: This paper presents the design of high-speed, multiplication-free, arbitrary bandwidth shape FIR filters based on a modified frequency response masking (FRM) structure. A novel hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA) is proposed to jointly optimize the modified FRM filter. The proposed HGA integrates the simulated annealing (SA) technique into optimization process and effectively prevents GA from premature convergence. It is shown by an example that an FRM filter designed by the HGA achieves significant reduction in the number of bits. © 2005 IEEE.
