Abstract: Researchers from National University of Singapore (NUS) have developed a high performance concrete that enhances the impact performance of the steel-concrete-steel sandwich (SCS) system and improves the overall safety and integrity of hull like structures. The steel-concrete-steel sandwich (SCS) system is serving as an appealing innovative alternative for existing stiffened steel plate structures in the marine technology. The SCS system plays its significant role if a structure is potentially subject to significant bending moment, cyclic loading and large impact loading arising from hazardous environment. Results from an extensive research works on various configurations of sandwich beams and plates has also been discussed that has concentrated on the application of the steel-concrete-steel sandwich construction in offshore and marine environment. The research addressed technical issues, such as penetration resistance, fatigue performance and lightweight requirements.
