Abstract: This paper presents an overview of the application of reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography for the characterization and separation of fatty acids and their derivatives since 1974. It reviews various kinds of bonded phases and detectors used in the analysis of fatty acids. The retention behavior of fatty acids and prechromatographic derivatization techniques are also discussed.
