A simple method for determination of second-order plus dead time model parameters from process transients is presented. The method relies on three points of the process step response curve to minimize the error integral between the process and the model responses. Illustrative examples show that the method will allow a rapid and reliable estimate of parameters. © 1994 American Chemical Society.
