Title: | Touchdown indentation of the seabed | Authors: | Palmer, A. | Keywords: | Buckling Catenary riser Pipelaying Touchdown |
Issue Date: | Jul-2008 | Citation: | Palmer, A. (2008-07). Touchdown indentation of the seabed. Applied Ocean Research 30 (3) : 235-238. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apor.2008.09.004 | Abstract: | A large force occurs where a pipe touches down on the seabed, during pipelaying or when the pipe is part of a catenary riser. The solution for a rigid seabed is well known. This technical note extends the analysis to a rigid-plastic seabed. The analytic solution is straightforward, and confirms the field observation that large indentations can occur, particularly when the tension is low. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd.
