Abstract: The paper considers optimization of plastically designed plates with a constraint on the maximum thickness only. The aim of the paper is to complement previous work done by Rozvany. Olhoff, Cheng, Taylor and Wang, confirming numerically their analytical solutions based on Prager-Shield criteria. The above authors also verified the same results by considering a large number of intuitively selected designs. Solutions corresponding to various levels of load intensity will be compared with prior analytical solutions to test the validity, accuracy and convergence of the numerical method. In addition, analytical solutions for built-in edges are reviewed. © 1986.
