dc.description.abstractThis paper introduces a laser positioning measurement system with the aim of establishing a new technique in the direct measurement of wind-induced tip displacement of tall building models in simulated wind environment. The experiment was carried out on a semi-rigid aeroelastic model of the CAARC standard tall building of 1/375 length scale in the NUS-HDB boundary layer wind tunnel, National University of Singapore. The displacements measured using laser positioning technique were compared with those involving the conventional strain gauge. The paper also presents the application of this technique to measure the relative displacement between two building models. © 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
