Laboratory reactors were set up to study the anaerobic treatment of primary sludge loaded with high levels of free fatty acids under the influence of a commercial biocatalyst. COD, TS, TVS, pH, alkalinity, total volatile acids, gas production and gas quality were monitored. By comparing the organic destruction parameters, it was found that the biocatalytic additive used did not aid the anaerobic treatment of such waste in the range of the concentration of free fatty acids investigated.
