Dynamic light scattering has been used traditionally for particle sizing from dilute dispersions. However, the information contained in the measurements can also be used to measure linear viscoelastic properties of complex fluids such as dispersions, micellar solutions and microemulsions and polymer solutions and blends under certain conditions. In this review, we present the basic approach for extracting the rheological properties of complex fluids from dynamic light scattering measurements and illustrate the method using two model systems, one a solution of poly(ethylene oxide) in water and the other a model hard-sphere dispersion.
