Issue Date: | 1996 | Citation: | Hu, S.-B., Liu, B., Low, T.-S. (1996). Skew angle and off-track capability of near contact recording systems. IEEE Transactions on Magnetics 32 (5 PART 1) : 3866-3868. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. https://doi.org/10.1109/20.539199 | Abstract: | Various sutlers for near-contact recording systems have begun to appear in present high areal density disk drives. In this paper, systematic investigations were conducted to evaluate the effects of skew angle on off-track capability of near-contact recording systems. Tri-pad sliders were used in the investigations. The spacings between read/write elements and disk surface were in the range of 0. 6-1. 2 u,in. The off-track capability is reduced and the noise level of residual signal after overwriting is increased, when skew angle is increased. A large skew angle also makes the off-track capability asymmetric and makes off-track capability sensitive to off-track direction. However, increased skew angle reduces the track-to-track interference in writing operation. © 1996 IEEE. | Source Title: | IEEE Transactions on Magnetics | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/62787 | ISSN: | 00189464 | DOI: | 10.1109/20.539199 |
