Abstract: The authors have found that generalised perfectly matched layer can be derived using wave impedance and effective permittivity concepts. This approach uses a trapezoidal integration scheme which leads to significantly better performance in matching propagating waves and a slight improvement in absorption of evanescent waves, in a lossy medium.
