Abstract: The paper presents analysis of iron loss in permanent magnet spindle motors used for hard disk drives. The analysis is based on finite element method and uses the information on local flux density variation in the motor components. The iron loss distribution and the effect of the stator dimensions on the total iron loss are discussed. © 1997 IEEE.
