Abstract: The designing of two dimensional (2D) biaxial woven and braided fabric reinforced composites were discussed. The textile composite was subdivided into small elements which were unidirectional (UD) fibrous composite in its local coordinate system. The matrix properties were defined according to the averaged value of the current three principal stresses in the matrix. Properties of all UD composites were assembled by a volume average based on either iso-strain or iso-stress approach. Results showed that the iso-strain assemblage scheme gives better correlation for both the stiffness and strength of all the composites.
