Domain free discretization method was presented recently to solve irregular domain problems without introduction of coordinate transformation. As an effective solver for problems with complex domain, this method can be combined with other advanced numerical technologies, such as multi-grid, to make it more effective and find more applications. This paper is one of a series of papers to explore new variants of DFD. It presents the multi-grid version of DFD method, the MG-DFD method. The MG-DFD method was validated by its application to solve Poisson equation and simulation of the natural convection in a vertical eccentric annuli governed by stream function-vorticity formulation. Numerical examples show that MG can greatly accelerate the convergence speed. © 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
