dc.description.abstractThis paper presents a novel approach to estimate the contact force on a human head induced by a foreign-object impact. A simple head-striker model is proposed to describe the contact between the human head and the foreign-object striker. Based on the head-striker model, a contact force function is formulated, which is expressed by the head and striker material properties and the impact velocity. The contact force predicted by present method is compared with the previous published experimental data. A good agreement of the simulation results with the experimental data shows the feasibility of the present approach. © 2007 IEEE.
