Title: | Vibration study on plates with stiffened openings using orthogonal polynomials and partitioning method | Authors: | Lam, K.Y. Hung, K.C. |
Issue Date: | 1990 | Citation: | Lam, K.Y.,Hung, K.C. (1990). Vibration study on plates with stiffened openings using orthogonal polynomials and partitioning method. Computers and Structures 37 (3) : 295-301. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | A vibration study on rectangular plates with stiffened openings is carried out by using a very accurate and computationally efficient numerical method. The method involves partitioning of the plate domain into appropriate rectangular segments in order to approximate the deflection function of each segment by sets of orthogonal polynomials. Substitution of the functions into the Rayleigh-Ritz procedure yields the eigenvalue equation. Natural frequencies of simply-supported and fully-clamped plates with stiffened openings are presented. The effects of the flexural rigidity and the corresponding mass inertia of the stiffeners upon the fundamental frequency of the structures are investigated. © 1990. | Source Title: | Computers and Structures | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/58906 | ISSN: | 00457949 |
