Abstract: A study of free vibration of thin cylindrical panels was carried out using a method based on Flugge's theory for thin shells. The cylindrical panels studied were the square and rectangular planform types with the four edges simply supported. Frequency characteristics are presented for different axial and circumferential wavenumbers, length-to-planform width ratios, circumferential length-to-radius ratios and thickness-to-radius ratios. Effects of the variation of Poisson's ratios on frequency characteristics at different thickness-to-radius ratios are also considered. The predicted frequency parameters are also compared with the available reported results and good agreement is obtained. © 1994.
