Abstract: An efficient and accurate numerical method in the study of the vibration of rectangular plates cutouts and non-homogeneity is presented. By dividing the problem domain into appropriate rectangular segments, the deflection function for the originally complex domain can easily be found. The method is simple and versatile by virtue of the use of a newly developed characteristic polynomial function in the Rayleigh-Ritz procedures. Numerical results obtained for isotropic and orthotropic plates are compared with the open literature and the agreement is found to be very good. © 1989.
