Abstract: This paper presents the application of time-average shearography to vibration mode shape analysis. The results obtained from shearography provide the slopes of the vibrating amplitudes-on a shearogram, the bright fringes show the positions of the extreme amplitudes for a vibrating beam. The paper also presents a theoretical and experimental study using an aluminium beam vibrated at frequencies corresponding to various bending modes of vibration. The experimental results show good agreement with the theoretical results calculated from the vibrating beam theory. © 1995.
