Abstract: The equations of motion of a classical thin plate on multiple line and point supports and subjected to prescribed time-dependent in-plane conservative loads are formulated based on Hamilton's principle and the assumed mode method. The effects of sinusoidal perturbations in respect of the in-plane loads are then examined by using Bolotin's method. The respective regions of instability are determined by converting the resulting equations of motion of the standard form of a generalized eigenvalue problem. Instability regions are presented for various combinations of line and point supports, average value and amplitude of the sinusoidal perturbations of the in-plane loads. © 1995 Academic Press.
