ScholarBank@NUS Repository.||Abstract:||The dynamic behavior of a rotating shaft with an intermediate support and conservative axial loads is analyzed using Euler beam theory and the assumed mode method. The equations of motion are then transformed to the standard form of eigenvalue problems for determining the critical dimensionless rotational speeds and the critical axial loads corresponding to the divergence-type instability of the shaft.
