ScholarBank@NUS Repository.||Abstract:||A simple layerwise higher-order zig-zag model is proposed for the vibratory response of soft-cored unsymmetric sandwich beams. The model accounts for a cubic variation of the in-plane displacements in each layer, and a parabolic variation of the transverse shear stress across the composite beam with zero values at the free surfaces. By imposing continuity of the in-plane displacements and the transverse shear stresses at the interfaces, the number of variables is shown to be the same as that given by the FSDT (First-order Shear-Deformation Theory), irrespective of the number of layers considered. Numerical results of the present theory for simply supported beams show that for most of the cases considered, the predicted natural frequencies and loss factors are generally lower than those given by the other models also accounting for core extensional stiffness. © 1994.||Source Title:||Composites Engineering||URI:||http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/57889||ISSN:||09619526|
