Abstract: The use of tilted media in the perpendicular recording system for high areal density recording was discussed. It was found that a much better tolerance of the easy-axis distribution was achieved when tilted media were used instead of perpendicular media in a perpendicular recording system. The analysis showed that a much faster magnetization switching was achieved in 45°-tilted media than in perpendicular media.
