ScholarBank@NUS Repository.||Abstract:||A 3-Dimensional (3D) deterministic wave propagation model is developed to study signal propagation in natural 3D terrains in the frequency range of VHF/UHF. The propagation model is based on the physical principles of Geometrical Optics (GO) and the Uniform Geometrical Theory of Diffraction (UTD). Significant ray-paths and their EM field properties at the observation point are computed efficiently from the physical theory. For the initial model, a simple 3D terrain consisting of a single mountain modelled by a dielectric circular cylinder with ground plane on both sides of the cylinder is considered. Currently, the UTD formulation for the 3D dielectric circular cylinder is not available.
