This paper discusses light scattering by a small spherical particle with low dissipation rate and radial anisotropy in optical and magnetic properties, according to the extension of the Mie theory to the diffraction by an anisotropic sphere. It is shown that near plasmon (polariton) resonance frequencies anisotropy can lead to an additional increase in field enhancement. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
