Abstract: We report a general strategy to design and synthesize a bright far-red and near-infrared fluorescent conjugated polyelectrolyte with a high quantum yield of 25% and a large Stokes shift of ∼200 nm, which is ideal for cell imaging. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2013.
