ScholarBank@NUS Repository.||Abstract:||This thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter introduces the general background, reviews the relevant researches in the field of overseas Chinese, Buddhist transmission and transnational religion in the late three decades; it also presents the research questions and methods. The second chapter provides the developing process of Chinese Buddhism in Fujian province, as well as the relationship between the beliefs of migrants and Dharma teaching of Fujian Buddhist monks in Nanyang. Chapter three to five describes the early life in China of Master Guangqia, expounds the transnational practices that Master Guangqia did in Singapore and further demonstrates the significant connections that Master Guangqia built between Singapore and China by visits and remittances.
